Levels and XP

Reward activity, in text and in voice.

Earning XP

Each message earns an amount of XP drawn at random between a minimum and a maximum. An anti-spam delay (60 seconds by default) prevents earning XP on every message sent back to back.

The curve

The total XP needed to reach a level follows the formula:

xp(n) = base × n ^ factor

With the default values (base 100, factor 1.5), level 10 requires about 3,162 XP. Raising the factor (from 1 to 3) stretches the higher levels without changing the early ones.

Multipliers

  • Per role: if a member has several multiplier roles, only the highest applies. They do not stack.
  • Per channel: combines with the role multiplier.

A factor ranges from 0.1 to 10 (2 = doubled XP).

Exclusions

  • Excluded channels: no XP is earned there. Excluding a category excludes its channels and its threads.
  • Excluded roles: members holding one of these roles earn no XP.
  • Ignore bots.

Role rewards

Grant a role from a given level. Two modes:

  • Stack: roles accumulate, the member keeps every tier.
  • Replace: reaching a tier removes the previous tier's role.

Level-up announcement

Four choices: announce nothing, announce in the channel where the member wrote, in a dedicated channel, or by direct message. The message accepts the {user}, {level}, {xp} and {server} variables.

Voice XP

Optional, it rewards time spent in voice:

  • XP per minute of presence;
  • ignore the AFK channel;
  • ignore members who are deafened or muted;
  • minimum number of humans in the channel, to prevent solo farming.

Commands

  • /rank: a member's level card.
  • /leaderboard: the server ranking.
  • /xp: adjust or reset a member's XP (administrators only).
