Installing Bao

Add the bot, check it is online, first settings.

Adding Bao to a server

  1. Click Add Bao from the site or the dashboard.
  2. Discord asks you to choose a server. Only servers where you are an administrator, or where you hold the Manage Server permission, appear in the list.
  3. Leave the requested permissions ticked, then confirm.

Bao joins the server immediately. Its commands appear in Discord within the hour (Discord takes some time to propagate them to all clients).

Checking that all is well

Type /ping in any channel. If Bao replies, it is connected and operational.

Putting Bao's role in the right place

This is the step most often forgotten. Discord forbids a bot from touching a role positioned above its own in the hierarchy.

Go to Server Settings → Roles and drag the Bao role above every role it will have to grant or remove: join roles, level rewards, menu roles, premium roles.

The typical symptom of a badly placed role: everything looks correctly configured, no error appears, and yet the role is never granted.

What next

Open the dashboard, select your server, and enable what you need. Each feature is independent: turning on tickets commits you to nothing else.
