Custom bot

Run Bao under your own name and your own avatar.

The custom bot (BYO, "bring your own bot") runs all of Bao's features under your Discord application: your name, your avatar, your banner.

Your members never see "Bao": they see your brand.

Setting up

Create an application on Discord's developer portal.
Enable the privileged Server Members and Message Content intents. Without them, the bot cannot start.
Copy the bot token and paste it into Configuration → Custom bot. It is stored encrypted and never shown again.
Invite your bot to your server, and place its role above the roles it will have to manage.

From the dashboard, you set:

name, avatar, banner: applied once, remembered by Discord;
presence status: online, idle, do not disturb, invisible;
activity: playing, watching, listening, streaming, competing, or a custom status.

Status and activity are not remembered by Discord: Bao reapplies them automatically on every start.

The token is never accessible to an AI agent, nor exposed by any interface.
If you reset the token on Discord's side, you have to paste it into Bao again.
A custom bot registers its own commands. Discord takes about an hour to propagate them.

The custom bot is included from Bao Royal onwards.
