Roles on join
Grant roles automatically, and give returning members their roles back.
Automatic roles
Bao grants the chosen roles as soon as a member joins. Two separate lists:
- Human roles: given to people (25 maximum).
- Bot roles: given to bots that join (25 maximum).
Grant delay
The delay (0 to 3600 seconds) postpones the grant: the role is only applied after N seconds of presence. An account that leaves or is kicked before the delay elapses receives nothing.
It is a simple and effective protection against waves of throwaway accounts: they never get the access they came for.
Sticky roles
Sticky roles give a returning member the roles they had when they left. Without them, someone who leaves the server for five minutes loses their whole role history.
- Empty list: Bao remembers all of the member's roles. An empty list does not mean "no roles".
- Filled list: only those roles are remembered and restored.
Premium roles are always excluded from sticky roles: they depend on a verified subscription, never on a memory.
What Bao refuses
- A role above its own in the hierarchy.
- A role managed by an external integration.
- A role holding dangerous permissions (Administrator, Manage Roles, Manage Server…). A role handed to every arrival cannot be a takeover role.
